There are some small shops and local amenities within easy reach of the home, with the resort and town of Deal being about 20 minutes walk or a short drive or bus ride from the home. Walmer Castle is also just a short drive away. The towns of Dover and Sandwich are also within easy driving distance. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well the outcomes are being met for people who use the service. It also provides us with some statistical and numerical information bout the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the home. Information that we have about how the service has managed any complaints and concerns. Any notifications received, these are a legal requirement and tell us about things that have happened in the home and how the service has managed these issues. The previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits made to the service in past 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people, including key professionals, have told us about the home. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear, completed in good detail and provided us with all of the information that we asked. We looked at the information contained in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home continues to provide an excellent service and they are aware of any further improvements that they need to make. The current service users have all been resident in the service for many years. There is a stable staff team and care staff have continued to keep their training requirements up to date according to the information contained within the AQAA. Service users continue to access a good range of activities outside of the home. Residents have made positive comments about the service and surveys returned confirmed that they are happy living in the home. A visiting professional also returned a survey stating that all of the residents are happy, contented and well cared for. The staff are pleasant, friendly and caring. There have been no complaints or concerns raised in connection with the service over the past 12 months and no safeguarding vulnerable adult alerts have been made in this time. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home continues to let us know about things that have happened in the service since our last key inspection and they have shown us that they manage issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 15th December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people using the service.
