What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Six surveys returned to us by people using the service and from eight staff members and one health professional. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection, which was carried out 9th November 2007 and the previous Annual Service Review carried out on 8th November 2008. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us the home is clean and fresh and they enjoy their meals but are concerned sometimes by the lack of staff available to help them and the lack of activities. Comments included, Cooking is very good, another resident stated, Lovely fresh food, with generous portions. With regards to staff being available four residents had stated staff are usually available when they needed them, one had stated, always and one had stated sometimes. One resident wrote, I hesitate to use the call button sometimes, when I could really do with some help, because the staff although always willing are so very busy. Another person wrote Never enough staff. We received comments from eight members of staff. They felt they received good support from their manager. Comments from staff included, We provide an environment which the residents can feel cared for and safe. Another wrote, We see people as individuals and meet their individual needs. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Both residents and staff highlighted the lack of activities. Half the surveys received from residents stated there was usually activities they could join in with and the other half had stated sometimes. One residents when asked. What the home could do better?, stated, Organise more get together.Three staff members stated the home could be improved with more activities. One staff member wrote, We are busy doing tasks, I occasionally feel we do not spend enough time with the residents just listening and talking. Another staff member wrote, More interaction, games and activities. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 9th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
