Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: We visited the service to look at the services safeguarding practices due to concerns earlier in the year when safeguarding issues had not been referred appropriately. We looked at the services safeguarding and whistle blowing procedures. We found that procedures were in place but that the safeguarding procedure dd not reflect current practice. It did not identify the correct process for referring potential safeguarding incidents to the local authority. We spoke to three members of staff, one of which was the deputy manager. All the staff were aware of signs of potential abuse and of how to respond if they have concerns that someone may be being abused. All the staff were aware of the need to refer any concerns to the local authority as the co-ordinating authority for safeguarding issues. We spoke to the staff about the whistle blowing procedures and some staff were unclear about the procedure. The services needs to make sure that staff understand the procedure. We also looked at a care plan for someone that could display verbal and physical aggression. We saw that a plan was in place to support this person and to ensure the protection of others.
