What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) was sent to CQC after being completed by the manager in December 2009 . The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent out to people using the service and other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The manager completed the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) and submitted it to the Care Quality Commission in a timely manner. The AQAA was fully completed and gave clear detail about the progress of the service over the past twelve months and looked at what improvements were planned over the next twelve months. We were told that as a result of listening to the views of people living at the home the home has developed more flexible rotas targeted toward individual needs. As a result people living at the home have more say in who supports them. The AQAA told us that redecoration of the dining area had been completed, making the environment warmer and less sterile. We received surveys from two staff member who work at the home, five relatives or carers and three people who live at the home. The forms from people living at the home were positive. People answered positively to the questions asked. Relatives surveys were very positive. Comments included our daughter is very happy at the old police house. The staff are excellent they give 100 care at all times staff are very Caring. It should be noted that two relatives stated that at times the home was short staffed. This was confirmed in the staff surveys with both staff members telling us the they sometimes felt short staffed. Staff told us that they are given up to date information with regard about the needs of people living at the home. Staff told us that they received induction and received adequate training. One person told us that they had to wait for some time before induction started. Comments from staff included we provide good basic care and we use communication methods such as intensive interaction, signs symbols photos objects of reference well. It should be noted that both staff members and one relative felt that the home needed updating and may not always be the ideal environment to meet the needs of people living at the home. We receive have received no concerns or complaints about the service. We receive regular and appropriate notifications in line with Regulation 37 of the Care Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Home Regulations. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by January 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
