If yes, what have they been: Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service Woodpeckers is registered to provide accommodation to 3 adults who have a learning disability. The three people live in the home with Mr and Mrs Robinson, as part of their family. Each person has a single bedroom, and shares a bathroom. They have access to the whole of the house and garden. The owners provide a high level of care, and employ other staff to support people during the day and at weekends. The home is a large 5-bedded house in a residential area of Verwood in Dorset. It is within walking distance to the village shops, and there are regular buses to the towns of Ringwood and Bournemouth. People living there can choose whether to go to another establishment for day activities, or remain in their home with staff to support them with leisure activities. The weekly fees ranged from £450 to £520 at the last key inspection on 17th March 2009. 1 7 0 3 2 0 0 9 Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. It demonstrates that the home has an understanding of what best practice is for the people who live here and they know how to maintain this. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Some examples of the developments within the home are: A new bath seat has been installed in response to the increasing needs of one service user. The home now has a pet dog and two rabbits which Mrs Robinson states are very popular. An additional smaller car has been purchased to enable service users increased access community facilities and events. The laundry has been refurbished. People receive a consistent service from staff who are open to new ideas to support people to empower them to take control of their own lives and realise their aspirations. Service users are involved in daily activities and are actively involved in the local community. Significant events such as birthdays are recognised and celebrated. Annual holidays are taken, but this year in response to the increasing needs of service users, will be on a weekly or day trip basis. One of the three care staff holds NVQ level 2 or above. There has been a low staff turnover rate. The Registered Provider Mrs Patricia Robinson holds NVQ 4 and Registered Managers Award. Mrs Robinson has stated in the AQAA that staffing levels have been increased at key times in response to the increasing needs of the service users over the last year. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. There was one requirement made at the last key inspection, to ensure that one service user had an up to date written care plan. From the information in the AQAA, provided by Mrs Robinson this has now been met. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 1st March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
