Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? This service is rated as two star, good. This rating was made on 23 September 2008. This annual service review included a review of the information received by the Commission since the previous key inspection. We looked at all the information we have received or asked for. This included Annual Quality Assurance Assessment Notifications we received including matter that the service is required by law to be reported to the Commission Telephone conversation with the Registered Manager and the Area Manager What has this told us about the service? The home provided us with an excellant Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, which gave a clear picture of how the service was run and hwo people using the service were involved. The AQAA stated that the home works to foster and support independance for the people who live there through regular participatory meetings, proactive monthly keywork sessions and imformal ways of engaging the residents running their home. The AQAA also gave concrete examples of how the residents views can effect changes in both the operational and physical environment. Residents choose how they spend their time and the activities they participate in. While previous residents have attended day cetnre and formal community activities, the Registered Manager told us the the current residents prefer to be home based. All have had their care regularly reviewed by the home and by other professionals. The residents participate in the day to day running of the home, including cleaning, cooking and gardening. The home is working to increase the number of residents who take control of their own medication. We spoke to the Registered Manager and the Area Manager. They told us that in the past year there have been signicant improvements in the physical environment and further developments, such as the reconfiguration of communal areas are planned. The home now has a computer and a new washing machine. The home takes a sound approach to equality and diversity. There are policies and procedures in place for recruitment, staff training, dealing with discrimination and harassment, and working to meet the diverse needs of the residents. The AQAA stated that the staff are making good progress with NVQ qualifications. Staff Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 are trained on a rolling programme which covers core areas of practice. The Registered Manager told us that the home currently has three vacancies. Two of the three residents have lived in the home for several years and one person came to live there two years ago. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Our inspection plan remains unchanged. We will do a key inspection by 20 September 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if at any time we have concerns about the quality of service and the safety of people using the service, or as a result of this annual service review.
