What did we do for this annual service review? The home sent us information this included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Have your say surveys from people who use the service, staff and supporting health professionals. Eighteen of which were returned. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Surveys were sent out and good responses were received, ten service users, five staff and three health professionals surveys were returned. Comments from people who use the service included what the home does well the meals are good holidays are arranged and staff come with us care meals laundry all aspects of personal care all the staff have been, and are, good to me we are well cared for there is a good atmosphere, friendly, cheerful and helpful helped me get better and now I can walk better activities and meals they look after me very well give support and helped with problems food is good meals laundry happy the way Tynedale House is run. Comments about what the home could do better more trips out next year cannot think of anything more trips out nothing take me out in the car. Staff commented on what the home does well Tynedale provides a good environment for residents and staff because the units are small staff can give quality time to residents as and when required supports and looks after clients needs as well as Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 supporting the staff meets the needs of all individuals giving them a homely place to live making it a safe, caring and clean environment creates an atmosphere where people feel safe and valued while being encouraged to lead an active and independent lives by caring, well trained staff we are provided with good training so staff can be adaptable and give a good standard of care to any client we have a good reputation with family members and other health care professionals we listen and when things are not quite right and are adaptable to change laughter is often heard in Tynedale between clients and staff as we share the lighter side of life as well as the serious. Comments on what the home could do better better transport so we can take residents out for the day and not rush back provide a bus/car for individual needs a better garden/conservatory for individuals provide more entertainment for clients. Supporting health professionals commented on what the home does well clients are clean, well dressed and treated with respect by staff respite care provide a happy environment maintain staff teams who are experienced have an open door policy Tynedale house appears to be a very happy environment this is also reflected in the way professionals are welcomed during visits. Comments on what the home could do better staff are not generally well informed about clients physical problems information is not available, it does not seem to be shared amongst the team I am often not included in reviews when I should be equipment can be lacking or slow to appear follow suggestions/recommendations with a more consistent approach change practice (with subtle/individual issues) using new knowledge/ skills communication between the team and outside agencies could be better on occasions, however I understand Tynedale House is a busy environment. The home has informed CQC of any events that have happened since our last key inspection but there have been no cause for concern. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
