We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits or service reviews during the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at all the information we have about the home, and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. Information in the AQAA demonstrated that they are up to date with current good care practice and are working towards making further improvements. The home has recognised quality assurance monitoring systems in place and is proactive in seeking the views and opinions of people who use the service. As part of this process the home sends out regular survey questionnaires and publishes the results. Any issues raised in the surveys are acted upon to improve the service. Since the last inspection, the home has made a number of improvements as a result of suggestions from the people who use the service and their relatives. These include putting up new fencing in the garden and purchasing new garden furniture. The home works hard to make sure people are able to lead interesting, fulfilling and active lives. They arrange trips out and have entertainment in the home. Special events are celebrated in the way people prefer. There is a clear complaints procedure and people know who to contact if they have any concerns about the standard of service provided. Information provided in the selfassessment form shows that no complaints have been received by the home in the last year. The manager and staff aim to resolve any concerns as soon as they are mentioned. This prevents small concerns escalating into complaints and improves peoples satisfaction with the service. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 All the staff have taken adult protection training as well as training in other areas of their work such as medicines administration, dementia care and safe moving and handling. Further training is planned for the coming year as part of the homes continuous staff training programme. The home has a thorough staff recruitment and selection procedure, which makes sure that people are supported by staff who are suitable to work in the caring profession. All new care staff receive induction training using the Skills for Care Common Induction Standards. Staff also have regular one to one supervision meetings with their line manager. This helps them to plan their professional development, as well as giving staff an opportunity to discuss any areas of concern in a confidential setting. We were told that the people who live at the home are looked after well and their needs are met. People are treated with respect and their privacy and dignity is maintained. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 24th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
