Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key Inspection which had been carried out on the 27th October 2008. The service was rated two stars at the 2008 inspection visit. This Annual Service Review report was completed on the 6th October 2009. To complete this report we looked at: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (known as the AQAA). This was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. Surveys were returned to us by people using the service and by the staff team. Information about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called Notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and overall gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The Manager (who owns the home) has known the residents for some years and is aware of the residents changing needs. The AQAA stated the home had bought new furniture and an electric bath chair to support the residents to bathe safely. We received surveys from the two residents who live in the home and from two members of staff. The staff surveys confirmed they had received an induction when they first started working in the home and that they receive ongoing training. Comments from staff included: we are kept up to date with changes, residents get one to one care and that interaction is encouraged between residents and staff. Both surveys completed by the residents confirmed they can do what they want to do each day and can make daily decisions. Both also confirmed they knew who to speak with if they were unhappy about something. Comments included: it is a good home and a nice home. The AQAA stated that the Manager, Deputy Manager and senior carer have obtained NVQ level 4. The AQAA acknowledges that staff need to keep up to date with their training and knowledge. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The AQAA stated there had been no complaints or adult abuse (known as safeguarding) referrals or investigations in the past twelve months. Staff confirmed in the staff surveys that they knew what to do if they had a concern about a resident. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown us that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the residents. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection visit by the 5th January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the residents.
