What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and asked for, since the last key inspection of 31st January 2008. We looked at their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA); this is their own assessment of how they are doing, that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. We looked at surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. We looked at how the service has managed any complaints. We looked at what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; notifications that are a legal requirement. We also looked at our last report on the service, relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. In the AQAA Mrs Goadby told us that as a result of talking to people, they have adapted how people are supported to maintain contact with families. The home told us they plan to continue developing strategies for communication and person centred approaches for the people who use the service. People now have Lifebooks and the care plans have been adapted to a more person centred format. The building continues to be upgraded with re-decoration of peoples bedrooms and replacing the kitchen flooring. All but one member of staff are undertaking NVQ Level 3. One member of staff already has the qualification. Mrs Goadby is nearing completion of the Leadership and Management in the Care Sector Award. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home always tell us that they are happy there. We received comments from relatives of people living in the home. All continue to be very satisfied with the quality of the care. One comment was I am very happy with the care my [relative] is getting. They are fantastic. Another relative told us I am extremely happy with the service offered at Wilcot Road. A further relative told us My [relative] always seems to be happy to leave me as we get out of the car and trot up to the front door. [She] seems settled and happy. I appreciate her having this placement. One of the healthcare professionals told us It provides a safe and secure environment with well trained, appropriate level of staff to a group of adults with learning disabilities. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Subject to any changes in registration and inspection practice following implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, our current plan is to do a key inspection by 31st January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
