Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. They tell us they listen to the views of people living at the home by various ways including resident and relatives meetings, satisfaction surveys and considering information received in the form of complaints and concerns. They told us about changes they have made as a result of listening to people living at the home. These include providing dining menus in large print, monthly food forums resulting in adjustments of the menus, the appointment of a second full time activity organiser to allow for group and individual activities and raised floral boxes outside the bedroom windows. They told us about plans for improvements in the next twelve month that will continue to improve outcomes for people living at Wimborne Care Home. These include continued improvements to the internal and external environment, the possible introduction of an on call snack menu, and plans to develop the training plan so there is a plan for the whole year which will ensure people are cared and supported by people who the skills and knowledge to do so effectively. A random inspection by one of our specialist pharmacy inspectors was completed on 8th June 2009. This concluded that the systems in the home for medication management are good and are followed by the staff members. Surveys received from people living at the home and their relatives indicated a high level of satisfaction with the service provided at Wimborne Care Home. Comment received included I find it a very homely home, very warm and cosy and the staff are friendly, the food is very good, they have an excellent and varied activity programme and are very good at encouraging people to participate, and they are very good about keeping an eye on people with memory problems without hovering. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home continues to let us know about things that have happened in the from of notifications and indicate they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? A key inspection will be completed within 3 years of the last key inspection.
