The manager confirmed this information during the annual service review in July 2009. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, and asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: --The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. --Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. --Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. --What the service has told us about things that have happened. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. --The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits made to the service in the past twelve months. --Relevant information from other organisations. --What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was submitted by the service when it was requested. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make, particularly in the physical area of extending or upgrading the environment. In the past twelve months a wider range of activities has been developed. The AQAA states that no complaints have been received and that the homes complaints procedure is clearly visible. An advocacy service is also available to people who use the service. We received an unusually high number of surveyed responses from nineteen residents and two next-of-kin, fifteen staff members and a professional from the medical field. All have expressed satisfaction with the service, commending the approachability and leadership given by the manager, and the kindness of the staff. Some residents said, the home keeps me happy and well, inter-relationships between patients is very good it takes care of people, with lots of fun very good meals. To the question about what the home does well, several commented most things. Suggestions for improvement included the homes decor and soft furnishings. At the last inspection we noted that the limitations of the shape and age of the building would shortly be overcome by the anticipated provision of a purpose built 60-bed unit, to be completed by 2010. However, the difficult financial climate has affected the development of this vision. Staff expressed pride at working at Woodside Lodge, scoring highly the training, support from management and information processes the service operates. A point of Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 lesser confidence was that although there was usually enough staff there was not always sufficient staff on duty to meet the needs of the residents. Families comments included, gives clients stimulating activities, considerate and patient care, affection and respect. Cleanliness excellent, medical care efficient, friendliness to relations very good and welcoming. Staff always helpful, a well managed home. Enthusiastic and caring manager. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by 9th July 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
