What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection in November 2008. This included: * The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. * Feedback surveys returned to us by those using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. * Information we have about how the home manages any complaints. * What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. * The previous key inspection report. * Relevant information from other organisations. * What people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service was sent their annual quality assurance assessment on the 1 September 2009 and was asked to complete and return it to us by the 29 September 2009. A completed document was received as requested. The home was last inspected by us on the 3 November 2008. The outcome rating following our visit was 2 stars, providing a good standard of care for people who live at the home. Archmoor is a small family run home with the owner working closely with the manager on a day to day basis. Placements are funded by the local authority or through private arrangement. People needing respite are also accommodated. Information provided on the AQAA was detailed and outlined what support is provided by staff at the home, arrangements in relation to health and safety, staff training and development as well as areas of development and improvement they wish to explore over the forthcoming year. Systems are in place with regards to quality monitoring ensuring the home is meeting the needs of people they support. Questionnaires are distributed to residents past and present to gain their feedback about the care provided. Regular reviews are also carried out with the involvement of relevant health and social care professionals. Arrangements are in place with regards to equality and diversity. Staff are offered relevant training and consideration is given to enable people to observe their religious and cultural needs. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Opportunities are also provided with regards to staff training and development. Information provided showed that the team comprises of 15 full and part time carers with 5 none care staff. The majority of the team have completed courses in mandatory training including infection control, nutrition, food hygiene as well as courses specific to the care needs of older people. Skills for Care Induction is in place and NVQ training has also been provided. Most staff have completed the course at level 2 with some members of the team progressing to level 3. The manager is currently completing her NVQ level 4 leadership and management award. Further information was provided on the AQAA with regards to complaints and concern. A complaints procedure is made available to each person living at the home and a grumble book has been introduced so that minor issues can be recorded and addressed. The manager stated that a complaints had been received over the last year. A further issue was brought to her attention with regard to a person being admitted on respite. Due to the homes concerns this was referred to the local authority in line with the safeguarding procedures ensuring the person was kept safe. Concerns were raised with us earlier in the year. Due to this a Random Inspection was undertaken by our pharmacist inspector. A report was completed detailing our findings. As part of this review we also send out feedback surveys to people living at the home and staff. At the time of writing this report no completed surveys had been returned. Our judgment is that the service still provides a good service for the people who receive support. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
