Buses stop just outside the home. It is set in its own exceptionally attractive and spacious grounds, with car parking space at the front and rear of the home. There is a garden and patio area with seating at the back of the home as well as an enclosed garden for people with dementia. Bowgreave Rise provides personal care for older people, including people with dementia, and is equipped to suit the needs of its residents. All of the bedrooms are single. Toilets and bathrooms are conveniently situated. There is a passenger lift, grab rails, raised toilet seats and ramps to make sure everyone can get around trhe home. There is ample communal space, with a large dining room and large lounge supplemented by smaller spaces around the home. There is seperate accommodation for people with dementia, with a dining room and two small lounges. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found:
We carried out this inspection to monitor standards at the home. We talked to the manager, a senior carer (Residential Care Officer), several residents and a visiting volunteer. We looked at all of the shared areas of the building as well as several bedrooms. We also looked at documentation concerning medication, care planning, staff training and quality assurance. Before we visited the home the manager, Joyce Reynolds, sent us an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that described how the home feels it is meeting the needs of the people who live there. Several staff and residents also returned survey forms to us setting out their views on the home. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
The manager is trying to reduce the use of agency staff by building up a bank of its own casual staff who can be called on in the event of sickness. The home is generally well cared for, though it would benefit from modernisation, and the care of the garden depends to some extent on the involvement of local voluntary organisations. The
