What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us that they continue to support people in an individual and diverse way. For example, people are supported to access different activities of their own choice and one person has been supported to go out independently. Individual plans are updated to reflect personal choices, for example times for getting up or going to bed, and whether someone likes their hair done in a particular way, or likes to wear particular clothes or make up. As a result of encouraging, and listening to, feedback from the guests, and their families, who use their services Loddon Court have expanded the type of support they are able to offer. This now includes an outreach service and a summer support project. The service has also made other changes as a result of listening to the people who use their service. These include, for example, providing wall mounted flat screen televisions in the communal areas, the creation of a Loddon Court Band and organising four holidays, including one to Cyprus. Other improvements include the registration of the manager, some redecoration and refurbishment, with a plan to continue this and update the kitchen. Two recommendations made after our last inspection have both been followed. Peoples plans now include their reasons for coming to Loddon Court for respite, and more detailed information is kept regarding medication which is taken only as required. Staff turnover has been low since the last inspection and there has been little use of agency staff. Training has been improved and a senior person now oversees medication issues. The outside space has been improved with the addition of a Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 swinging seat, but plans for a sensory garden had to be put on hold because of extensive pipe work needed to create this. We received completed surveys from six of the people who live at the home. These told us that people have plenty of information about Loddon Court, and about its ability to meet their needs, before they decide to use the service. It also confirmed that people can usually do what they want with their time, although occasionally staff and transport constraints can limit this. The surveys told us that people, or their families, knew who to speak to if they were not happy about something. They also told us that the home is usually fresh and clean and that staff treat people very well, although one comment was made that sometimes staff didnt listen and act on what was said. People commented that they liked the new TVs, the trips out and the activities. One comment was that staff are kind and caring, another that Loddon Court provides respite care with compassion and common sense and another that Loddon Court treats x as a real person, understanding and providing for their needs. A further comment described the home as perfect. Some of the comments made in answer to what the home could do better, included asking what someone wanted to eat, as they didnt enjoy the food and a request to remind someone to bathe regularly. Since our last inspection Loddon Court has received one complaint and has dealt with one safeguarding incident, both of which have been dealt with appropriately. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown us that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not change our inspection plan. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
