What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. The last visit to the service was during March 2009. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The provider wrote in the AQAA: Social care plans have been developed further. Residents during individual discussions asked for more one to one support. Some of the additional care time introduced last year has now been allocated to provide individual one to one time to every resident on a regular basis. Doing so, has enabled us to fulfill another request for individual local trips out. There are plans underway to develop and improve the service and facilities. The provider wrote in the AQAA: The first stage of the building work is almost completed and includes a larger lift, a new staff room and a meeting room as well as improved office space, all of which have been requested by members of the Home. The new lounge and kitchen configuration will enable us to offer additional baking sessions to residents which is one outstanding request. Residents will be involved in choosing colour schemes and furniture for the new public areas, and they will be consulted individually on bedroom furnishings. Additionally, we will continue to be informed by the analysis of surveys, comments and complaints to ensure any further suggestions are taken forward. The home is committed to a high standard of care and is able to meet complex needs with support from other healthcare professionals. The provider wrote in the AQAA: To meet the increasingly complex needs of our residents we have continued to foster links with other health care professionals through LEODIS, specialist nursing services, our physiotherapist and with the input of Professor Mulley as part of the ICT multi disciplinary team. This has included training for our staff by the CPN, the dietetic nurse Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and other team members. There has been recognition of the homes achievements as noted by the provider in the AQAA: As a judgement by our peers, we were also delighted to be awarded the Nursing Home of the year award by Leeds Care Association in November 2009. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 13th March 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
