What the care home does well

It was dificult to determine what the service does well on this occasion. As this random inspection specifically focused on food provision and activities that are provided by the home.

What the care home could do better:

The home needs to improve the quality of food it provides to people living at Belmont House. There have been numerous complaints about the food, the quality and the lack of seasoning. The organisation needs to look at closely how they intend to improve the standard of food and how they make sure that people living at the home are consulted and asked their views about food provision. Effective monitoring systems need to be in place in making sure that the home is delivering good food.

Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: People living at the home who were spoken to on the day of the visit all complained about the food. They said that the meat was always tough and the food was never seasoned. People gave good examples and made numerous comments such as, the food is a big issue here,i have not had any decent meat for ages. For what we pay it is a poor service. The food is always bland. I love my food, simple food ruined by bad cooking. These were just a few of the comments made by people living at the home. There was opportunity to see what the food was like at lunch time on one of the units. Time was spent sitting and observing lunch. On the day lunch was lasagne or gammon. From observing people eating the gammon it was clear that the meat was tough as people struggled to cut it and eat it. This was fed back to the catering manager at the time of the visit. Activites were also discussed with people. Some people said there were activities such as a singer, instumentalist, keyboard player and a barbeque was held in the summer. One person said that actvities are non existant.
