What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service. The manager, who completed the AQAA said; We provide a comfortable, safe environment for vulnerable people and treat them with dignity and courtesy and also considering their individuality whilst letting them maintain their independence as much as possible. Throughout the AQAA the manager gave examples of how the home maintains high standards of care and also reported on how the service has improved over the last twelve months. She said; We have ensured that we provide the best facilities for the individual needs of our residents, in particular all rooms are now double glazed. We have a new easy access bath room for those who prefer a shower. Although the manager did not identify any areas where she felt that the home could do better she stated; We are always looking for ways to improve. We respond as quickly as possible to residents requests. When we carried out our last Annual Service Review (ASR) for the home, on 27th August 2008, we found that People living in the home tell us that they are happy there. They tell us the home provides for all their needs and that they can approach the management if they have any individual concerns. At the time of our last key inspection, on 7th September 2007, when we visited the service we found that; The home provides good quality care for up to 32 older people. The staff are sensitive and respectful to the needs of the service users. The range of Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 activities offered is good and staff respect the right of service users to decline involvement. Appropriate levels of independence are encouraged and supported. Care staff are well supported and provided with the necessary induction, mandatory and specialist training. Records are well maintained and completed professionally. From reviewing the AQAA, we believe that this continues to be the case meaning that people consistently receive an excellent quality service that meets their health and social care needs. The home notifies us promptly of any events that occur within the home in relation to the health and wellbeing of people living at Brook House. We have received seven such notifications all relating to expected events within the home. The AQAA identified that there has been no complaints made to the home within the last twelve months about the service and no safeguarding referrals. This suggests that people are safe and happy with the service that they receive. All of this information suggests that Brook House continues to offer an excellent service with the manager very aware of the strengths and needs of the home ensuring that improvements are identified and actioned and that the home continues to deliver an excellent quality of care and support for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 07/09/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
