Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? This Annual Service Review was completed on 6th June 2009. We looked at all the information that we received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included, The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA report that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service. Information we have about how the service managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspections and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment or AQAA report, when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us adequate information about the service. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. For example the AQAA report stated that the service will continue to listen to people who use the service. One of the ways they will seek to develop the service is to ensure that , We make more one to one time for staff to support people with the things they want to do. This shows the agencies commitment to offering people individualised services to meet their needs. The home told us they are planning to make numerous developments in the home including looking at changing the staff rotas to better meet peoples individual needs and ensuring that person centred planning is devised in the formats most accessible to the individual person. Five people who use the service were sent surveys, none of these were returned. The AQAA report tells us that the service has an experienced and stable staff team, but that only 25 of the staff team have NVQ2 or above in Care awards. This will need to be addressed to ensure staff have been assessed as having the basic skills and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 knowledge to support people. From the AQAA report the manager says that staff are being offered regular supervisions and the opportunity to attend team meetings to ensure that communication in the team is adequate to meet peoples needs. Five staff were sent surveys and none of these were returned. Five health professional surveys were sent to the registered manager to be passed on to relevant professionals. But none of these were returned to us. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. There have been no complaint made about the service over the last year. This shows that people and their representatives are overall satisfied with the service they receive from the home. We have not received any concerns or comments from relatives of people using the agency over the last year. The manager told us that there have been no adult safeguarding referrals made over the last year from the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25th June 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information Document Purpose: Author: Audience: Further copies from: Annual service review CQC General Public 0870 240 7535 (national contact centre) Our duty to regulate social care services is set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
