Page 2 of 8 nursing,social and personal care and it also cares for people who have a Dementia type illness. There is easy access to the home and there is planty of car parking to the front of the building.There is a pleasant conservatory to the back of the home which leads to a landscaped garden and patio area. There are lounges and dining rooms throughout the home and bathrooms and toilets are easily accessible. All bedrooms have an ensuite facility and access between floors is by stairs and passenger lift.Corridors and doorways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and there are plenty aids and equipment for those who need assistance. The home is close to all public amenities and there is a regular bus service which runs to the local shopping area. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
There was no evidence that service users are are being routinely assisted to bed from 5:30pm. The majority of service users were watching TV in the lounge areas, and others were sitting watching TV in their bedrooms. The inspector met with the deputy manager Margaret Keeler, and spoke to the senior staff on duty on each of the four units within the home. The inspector spoke to seven service users, and looked at some of the daily personal care records. The deputy manager and staff were very helpful. They were able to provide enough evidence to address the allegation made. Residential unit ground floor: The staff on this unit confirmed that there were 10 service users. One service user was in his room watching TV. All the other service users on this unit were sitting in the lounge. Two of the service users said that they usually go to bed around 9:00pm, or sometimes later. Residential unit first floor: The staff on this unit confirmed that there were 14 service users. One service user was poorly and in bed. Another had requested to go to bed at 6pm. The other service users were sitting in the lounge. Nursing unit first floor: The staff on this unit confirmed that there were 16 service users. Two service users are receiving palliative care. Six other service users were in bed. The Senior Nurse in charge Yetunde Adesma, said that they had all requested to go to bed, and that they preferred to be in bed at this time watching their TVs. With permission from each of the six service users in their rooms, they all agreed to speak to the inspector. Without exception, all said that they had requested to retire early,and were quite happy sitting up in bed watching TV. They confirmed that the staff always respected their choice. Nursing unit ground floor: The staff on this unit confirmed that there were 13 service users.Two are very frail and are being nursed in bed, three other service users were sitting in their rooms watching TV. The other service users were in the lounge. The service users spoken to said that staff are kind, always willing to help, treated them with respect and always promoted choice. The home has a number of high dependency service users. The deputy manager said, apart from one service user who was admitted two days earlier with a pressure sore, Care Homes for Older People Page 4 of 8 no other service users have a pressure sore.
