Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The current excellent rating was made at the last key inspection on 18 April 2007. The last Annual Service Review was completed on 21 May 2008. For this review we looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included; - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. - The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection. - Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was hand written, but clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People in the home always tell us that they are happy there. They like the personal service given and the quality of the food. Comments on surveys included staff are exemplary, communication is very good, even though shifts change there are always staff who we know and know us and the meals are excellent with good home cooking, fresh fruit and vegetables and good variety. Visitors and health professionals who access the home responded very positively about the services provided. Comments included the staff are good and look after my mother well, very good overall feeling to the home of calm, efficiency and contentment and it is a well managed team with very experienced staff. The home has a long-standing core group of staff and a very low staff turn over. The management encourage staff to gain qualifications in care but the manager said in the AQAA that staff had been so busy completing this training that some of the mandatory training had not been kept up to date. We contacted the manager to see how she would be addressing this. She stated that the staff have now enrolled on mandatory courses that required updates. She was requested to send us a copy of the training plan to evidence this. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since the last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 18th April 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
