Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found:
This was a random unannounced inspection of Mahogany Care Home which included a visit to the service. The inspection was the result of concerns expressed about the medication practices in the home, some staffing issues and management functions. This inspection report should be read in conjunction with a pharmacy inspection report which took place separately but on the same day. This report relates to matters other than medication. The home was visited and interviews took place with the registered manager, a registered general nurse, and three members of the care staff. Four people living in the home were also interviewed. A tour of the premises was made and other users and staff were observed. Although the general level of staffing was found to be sufficient to meet the needs of people living there, there has been a reduction in trained nurses which should be reviewed to ensure that all nursing functions are fully met. Particular management functions must be completed including the return of the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment document (AQAA) and the required notifications to us so that full information is kept on the home.
