Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? An annual service review is a report that we write for services that we have rated as good or excellent and have not had a key inspection in the last year. This report does not routinely include a visit to the service. The review is an analysis of all the information that we have gathered about the service since the last main inspection. Every year the registered manager is asked to provide us with written information about the quality of the service they provide by completing an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. We have used information from surveys returned to us by people using the service and information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. We also got information from what the manager has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. This information is used in part to focus our annual service review. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and they know what improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us that the staff at Meadow Lodge Care Home work hard to ensure that all new residents receive a comprehensive needs assessment according to the service admission policy and always confirm if they are able to meet the assessed needs before they move into the home. All care staff are trained to recognise significant changes that a new resident may present during the settling in period so these observations can be reported to the manager and addressed. Thirteen people using the service and their relatives each completed one of our service user surveys and made the following comments. Meadow Lodge is the ideal home for my mother as long as they can cater for her needs. I feel very lucky to have found such a home and hope mother can remain in good enough health to stay. The staff are always friendly, give love an affection which is most important and they are very pleasant with visitors and family and give support where necessary. I would feel happier if my mum had her own room so that I could provide a few more home comforts for her. The home is very organised and the staff care for my mum very well. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 My relative thinks that the home could provide more activities like games etc on a daily or weekly basis. They provide good care and attention, always willing to help assist when required. The staff and owners are caring. They look after my relative with care and affection. Attention to everything is good. Overall under great pressure the home is run excellently well. All the residents are happy and kept clean at all times. Comments are always taken on board and they try to accommodate each individual. They cope well with emergency situations regarding hospital admission and after care, they inform relatives of any problems. there could be more activities to stimulate the brain like leisure activities, trips out for those able to get out. The home is very good and very homely. Seems a very good home and Im very satisfied and content could not be anywhere better. The AQAA told us that the service hold a residents general meeting four times a year. At the meeting residents are given a satisfaction survey to complete. The surveys are carefully analysed and evaluated and the results are monitored, recorded and actioned. Due to this system changes and improvements have been made to the menu and further changes have been designed around residents access to activities and their participation in these events. More than 80 of the care staff team are trained up to Level 2 NVQ in Care and the managers have completed their Level 4 NVQ in Leadership and Management. To ensure that good equality and diversity values are incorporated into how the home is managed the AQAA states that all staff are trained and qualified in equality and diversity. The homes safeguarding policies and procedures have recently been reviewed and updated. Also management plans for a more stringent recruitment and induction procedure regular training ensure the promotion of equality and diversity within the home. The AQAA told us they know they give value for money because they invest in staff training and development and health and safety. They never compromise the standard of care for the sake of cost because they want to ensure a high standard of living for the residents. Eight care workers completed our staff surveys and wrote, There is a high standard of care within the home. A good staff team and we meet individual needs. Meadow Lodge is a happy home. The home is kept clean and tidy for the residents and the staff are nice. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We give care to residents and the atmosphere is friendly. We offer good standards of care and work well as a team. We meet individual requirements, help promote independence and good hygiene. We provide excellent care for the residents and we get up to date staff training. The care at Meadow Lodge is second to none. In my mind, the home cant do anything better than what we already do. The AQAA told us that highly trained staff who provide a quality service have proved that the home can achieve a good reputation and maintain high occupancy levels in the last 2 years. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by the 24th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at anytime if we have concerns about the quality of the service or safety of the people using the service Annual Service Review Page 6 of 7 Reader Information Document Purpose: Author: Audience: Further copies from: Annual service review CQC General Public 0870 240 7535 (national contact centre) Our duty to regulate social care services is set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
