This home last had a key inspection on the 22nd September 2009 where there were some concerns about the service. From this inspection there were a number of outstanding requirements. The Care Quality Commission issued notices to the registered provider to address the outstanding requirements from previous inspections. This inspection was carried out on the 3rd February 2010 by two inspectors to ascertain if the home had complied and had met outstanding requirements made at previous inspections. We looked at all the outstanding requirements with the homes manager and deputy manager. They were able to demonstrate with good evidence how they had met the outstanding requirements. We looked at two care plans. The manager informed us that these had recently been updated. We were told that they had received help from staff from the local authority. The care plans seen were detailed well and covered all areas of daily living for people who live at the home. Care plans had been reviewed they had also been agreed and signed by people living at the home. Risk assessments had also been carried out and were detailed well in how the home ensures people are protected and made safe wherever possible. Also seen were terms and conditions these were in the two files looked at and had been agreed and signed by people living at the home. The manager told us that a keyworker system is now in place which was working well. Each person living at the home now has a keyworker allocated to them. We looked at the medication system. Controlled drugs are now stored appropriately and in line with guidance. There now is a controlled drugs book in place. Advice was given that a running total should be kept of controlled drugs so that the home was clear as to what amount of controlled drugs were in stock. We discussed training for staff. Staff had completed basic first aid, fire, medication and deprivation of liberty training. Certificates had been obtained and held by the home. We were informed that moving and handling training had been arranged for 17th February 2010. All staff had not yet received safeguarding training. The manager said that attempts had been made and that they had received all the necessary information regarding safeguarding i.e the local authorities safeguarding procedures. The manager was advised to arrange safeguarding training for staff as soon as they possibly could as this was an outstanding requirement and could potentially put people at risk from abuse. The floor tiles that were identified at the last inspection as being loose have been repaired. We also looked at the fire records. These were all up to date and showed that all the necessary checks and maintenance had been carried out. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
