We looked at how the home supervised new staff following receipt of a POVA 1st check and before the CRB was obtained, to ensure the safety of the people who live there. We looked at the induction processes in the home for all new staff so they are aware of how to care for the people living in the home. We looked at the personnel files for 14 staff members who had commenced employment within the last six months. All files were found to have a full employment history, two written verifiable references and a POVA first check in place. Of these staff, four had not as yet had a CRB returned and these were working with another senior staff member at all times. Staff spoken with confirmed that this took place and they had not worked alone. An induction pack was seen and staff spoken with said that they had worked in a supernumerary capacity for the first few days and had completed an induction during the first months of being employed. Completed induction programmes were seen by the inspectors and these had been signed by the supervisor and employee.
