What the care home does well

Sandrock nursing home provides a homely environment that has and is continuing to improve with ongoing investment. Care is provided by a wellmotivated and stable work force. Residents are positively encouraged to exercise their own choice whenever possible in many aspects of their daily lives.

What has improved since the last inspection?

There has been a significant amount of redecoration with refurbishment of a bathroom, major upgrade of the passenger lift and replacement carpets in some areas.

What the care home could do better:

There is an urgent need to improve in several areas. Staff recruitment needs to be made robust to promote support and protection for residents and staffing levels must be maintained to ensure that all residents identified needs are met. Mandatory training for staff must be provided in manual handling, first aid, fire prevention, health and safety and food handling and hygiene together with training in specialist areas such as dementia care and diabetes. The inclusion of activities and social recreation must be put in place to provide stimulation and purpose for the residents. Record keeping needs to improve in most areas and a review of the management structure to provide clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
