Conditions of registration: Date of last inspection 17th August 2005 Brief Description of the Service: Wordsley House is a privately owned eight bedded care home for adults with mental health needs and is situated in a detached house in a quiet residential area of Hartlepool. The home has three stories and is indistinguishable from its neighbours. The home is situated close to the town centre of Hartlepool and provides easy access to local shops and leisure facilities. Wordsley House provides spacious communal living space for those who live there as well as a secluded garden to the rear. Each resident has their own single bedroom with a wash hand basin. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): 22 and 23 People could be assured the home had procedures for dealing with complaints and adult abuse issues. EVIDENCE: The complaints procedure had been revised since the last inspection though needed the address of the Commission for Social Care Inspection changing. The Commission considers Standards 24, and 30 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): 24. People enjoyed a clean and homely environment though minor repairs were needed around the home which would improve this. EVIDENCE: The home was clean and tidy and people spoken to were happy with their rooms and the standard of the accommodation. Some areas required attention one bedroom had some damp resulting in the wallpaper lifting and the bathroom ceiling needed some attention. It was planned to do this work in line with refurbishment already planned. There was a commitment to maintaining and improving the environment. Service users benefit from competent and accountable management of the service. The Commission considers Standards 37, 39, and 42 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): 37, 39 and 42 The family run home was well managed in the interests of the people who live there and though some health and safety issues required attention to ensure safety these matters were dealt with promptly. EVIDENCE: The manager has the Registered Managers Award and is in the process of completing the NVQ 4 in care. There was a quality assurance tool in place. Electrical Hard Wiring and Gas safety certificates were not available for inspection and the home was required to forward these to the Commission for Social Care Inspection. Health and safety, food hygiene and first aid training was taking place. Fire safety training was happening annually though it is recommended this be refreshed six monthly.

STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS This section sets out the actions, which must be taken so that the registered person/s meets the Care Standards Act 2000, Care Homes Regulations 2001 and the National Minimum Standards. The Registered Provider(s) must comply with the given timescales. No. 1. Standard YA24 Regulation 23(2)(b) Requirement Those areas requiring redecoration should be addressed. (Previous requirement not met by 17th November 2005) There were no electrical hard wiring or gas safety certificates so the safety of the installations could not be verified. These are required to be forwarded to the Darlington office of the Commission for Social Care Inspection before 10th March 2006. Timescale for action 31/07/06 2.
