What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received about Wordsley House since the last key inspection on 29th January 2009. We also looked at the homes latest Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that the owner/manager has completed to tell us how well outcomes are being met for the people who live here. We sent surveys to the eight people who live at the home. We sent surveys out to four staff working at the home. We looked at any events or changes that the home has told us about. These are called notifications and it is important that the home keeps us up-to-date about anything that affect the well-being of people who use this service. We have received no notifications from the service since the last inspection. We spoke to the manager by telephone to find out if there have been any changes to the home. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us all the information we asked for and showed us the areas where the home has continued to make improvements since the last key inspection. Wordsley House provides a family home for people with past or present mental health needs. The home is full with a waiting list. It is a well-established and valued care service in the local area. It is clear from the AQAA that the home continues to support people to lead independent, fulfilled lives. The AQAA shows that the home helps people to be involved in their local community through by social events, support groups, voluntary work and adult training links. The AQAA shows areas where the home has improved. These include making one lounge into a quiet area, which was suggested and agreed by the people who live here. Also a new roof has been fitted to the building; the hallway and staircase have been redecorated; new fire doors and more smoke detection has been fitted; and a flower border has been provided in the front garden. The home has also updated the information pack (called a service users guide) and the contract for the people who live here. The home has helped people to make sure that they are getting the right entitlement to health care funding. We received three surveys from the people who live here. They all said that they are well cared for. People also commented on the nice meals, day trips out and nice bedrooms. One person said, I enjoy living at the home, and would not change a thing. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The AQAA showed us the homes future plans for more improvements. These include a canopy for the outside smoking area; landscaped rear garden; and a proposal to redecorate bedrooms. There are plans to support people to local places of interest, and for them to hold coffee mornings so that they can be more involved and included in their local community. The manager stated that staff are the homes greatest asset and she plans to ensure that staff continue to have good training opportunities. We received one survey back from staff. This person felt very well supported in their role, and commented that the home did very well at meeting the residents needs. The AQAA shows that the home continues to provide a personalised service to meet the individual preferences and support needs of each resident. This review has shown us that Wordsley House continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who live here, with planned improvements for the future. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who live here. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
