Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent surveys to three people who live at the home, eleven members of staff, a care manager and a GP. At the time of writing this report we had received completed surveys from three people living at the home and two members of staff. Due to the communication needs of people who live at the home, they were given assistance by care staff to complete the surveys. The last time that we inspected this home was the 17 October 2008.That inspection did not raise any concerns and no requirements were made. All outcome areas were judged to be good. The last inspection of this home found that there were good systems to assess peoples needs before they moved into the home. The AQAA provided evidence that the home continues to implement an assessment process. The manager has told us in the AQAA that in the last twelve months they have improved the format for care and health plans, Making them more easily understood Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 by the service users and staff. Staff have told us that they are given up to date information about the needs of the people living at the home. The Care Quality Commission is not aware of any current concerns or complaints about the home. Staff who completed surveys responded that they knew the procedure in the event of someone wishing to raise a concern. People living at the home say that they know who they can speak to if they have any concerns. Our last visit to this home found that, the home provided good support for people to take part in a range of activities, to maintain contact with family and friends and to plan a healthy diet. Information provided in the AQAA provided evidence that this continues to be the case. The AQAA tells us that the home now has a vehicle to assist people who need more support to get out into the community. People living at the home have told us that they can make their own choices with regard to how they spend their time. Staff tell us that they are provided with training which is relevant to their role and the needs of people who live at the home. The AQAA informs us that out of a total of seven permanent care staff, four have obtained a NVQ level 2, one staff member was due to complete the course and a further staff member was due to commence the course in September. Since the last inspection a manager became registered in February 2009. The organisation have however recently informed us that the current manager is due to leave and a new manager has been appointed. There are no current concerns regarding the safety of the people who use the service. The AQAA provided sufficient evidence that systems are in place to regularly assess the quality of service that the home provides and that regular checks and servicing of equipment used within the home had been carried out. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17 October 2011, within three years of the last Key inspection. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
