2 Buckby Lane is registered to provide care and accommodation to four people between the ages of 18 and 65 who have learning disabilities. Each service user has a single bedroom and shares the use of a bathroom and a shower room. Service users share the use of a lounge, with a dining area and the kitchen. There is an enclosed garden to the rear of the home that service users are able to access. What the care home does well Peoples needs are known before they move to Buckby Lane and so they can be as certain as possible that the service will be suitable for them. Information is provided to service users in different forms, for example pictures. This makes it easier to understand. People who live at Buckby Lane are given choices about what they do. The manager ensures that there are enough staff on duty to make sure that people are offered the right amount of support. Staff know service users well and communicate with them effectively. A lot of staff have worked at the service for a long time and say that they enjoy working with each other and with service users People do a lot of different activities that they enjoy. What has improved since the last inspection? The staff team have improved their awareness of adult protection issues by completing further training and have followed safeguarding procedures to ensure the continued wellbeing of residents. The manager has kept CQC informed of important events affecting those at Buckby Lane and, where necessary advised us of any action that has been taken to protect people. This helps us to monitor the quality of the service provided. Staff have been given information about The Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. This will help them to understand their role and responsibilities in working with people who lack capacity to make certain decisions about their lives. Some redecoration has taken place , particularly to the communal areas. Staff are receiving more regular supervision. What the care home could do better: The service has identified in its Annual Quality Assurance Assessment areas where it intends to improve over the next twelve months This includes further development of person centred planning.
