What the care home does well The person living there is well cared for, protected and encouraged to be independent within their capabilities and wishes. They are actively involved in all aspects of their lifestyle, which ensures that their needs continue to be met. The person has lived as part of the family for over eighteen years and clearly see`s themselves as part of the family unit. They participate in family events and say, "I am made to feel part of the family". We saw the owner encourages independence by helping the person to take control of their own life and making their own decisions so they feel in control. Comments included, "I like to do my own thing and I feel I can do this here", "I am going on holiday soon for a short break". What has improved since the last inspection? We looked at the records for the person living there and found they have been improved upon, in that more information is recorded as to issues affecting the person, a new assessment has recently been carried out and this clearly shows the person was involved in the process.208 Cherry Tree RoadDS0000009973.V375384.R01.S.docVersion 5.2Work to improve the hard wiring of the home has been completed and a certificate has been issued for five years so that it is safe. We found additional fire equipment has been put in place and a new fire risk assessment and evacuation procedure is now in place for the safety of people using the service. The person living there showed us the fire evacuation plan they have and they clearly understood the information they have been provided with. We found there is continuous communication between the homes owner and the person living there and that any views are made and in some instances recorded so that a clear audit is evident about what consideration is being given to their views so changes can be made to benefit the service. We looked around the home and found there has been some improvement to the environment in that there has been decoration to the residents living accommodation, replacement of some bathroom equipment, new cooker and blinds to the resident`s bedroom. What the care home could do better: The external painting of the home requires attention so that it is well maintained and does not lead to further deterioration in the condition of the woodwork, which in some areas is exposed. Areas of the internal decoration require attention so that the environment is well maintained and a comfortable place to live. - Please note that this information is included on www.bestcarehome.co.uk under license from the regulator.
