What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent surveys to five members of staff and one GP. At the time of writing this report we had received completed surveys from three members of staff. Due to the communication needs of people who live at the home we were unable to survey them. The last time that we inspected this service was the 6th October 2008. That inspection did not raise any concerns and no requirements were made. All outcome areas were judged to be good. The last time that we visited the home it was found that they had an appropriate assessment process. The AQAA tells us that no one has moved into the home since our last visit. Staff have told us that they are given up to date information about the needs of the people living at the home. The last inspection of the home provided evidence that, Peoples needs are kept under regular review and recorded in detailed and personalised plans of care that promote independence. The AQAA provided sufficient evidence that this remains the same. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 No complaints or concerns have been reported to the Care Quality Commission or the predecessor organisation the Commission for Social Care Inspection since the last inspection. Data provided in the AQAA told us that the home had not received any complaints. The AQAA also stated that all staff have attended Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults training. Staff contacted as part of this annual service review responded that they knew the procedure in the event of someone wishing to raise a concern. The AQAA provided evidence that the home continues to carry out all relevant recruitment checks on staff prior to them being allowed to work with people and provides staff with appropriate training. Staff were asked in the surveys whether they received training which was relevant to their role, helped them to meet peoples individual needs and kept them up to date with new ways of working. All responded that they did. When asked what the home did well one staff member responded, Provide a place that is homely, cater for individual needs and promote independence. Another said, It is a very happy and well run home with regular training and information given. When asked what the home could do better one person replied,Have more on going members of staff for continuity purposes. The home has provided us with evidence that they have continued to maintain and improve the decor within the home and replace furnishings. The AQAA lists the following improvements made in the last twelve months: New white goods in both the flats, redecoration of one flat and the furniture in the lounge replaced. The AQAA also tells us that the fire alarm system has been updated. There are no current concerns regarding the management and running of this home or the safety of the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 6th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
