We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included: --The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well the service meets the needs of people living there. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. --Four surveys returned to us by people using the service (5 requested). A former member of staff who is now supporting the home as a volunteer helped the service users to complete their responses. --Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. --What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Currently the service is provided to five service users. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they are continuing with improvements. We have learned that staff have undertaken training in nutrition and food preparation to help promote healthy choices in appetising ways to encourage residents to engage with healthy menus while still having freedom of choice. All staff have also received training in food hygiene. Most staff have undergone accredited medication training, and those new staff waiting for it have received in-house training as an interim. The home has also continued to develop the opportunities for greater independence and service user involvement with their own medication. All communal areas have been redecorated and the residents were fully involved in the style of it and choice of colour. The AQAA told us that last year the home commenced a system of Designated Responsible Persons (DRP) with experienced team members taking a lead on certain shifts. The Manager has been through a Leadership Development Programme and the Deputy is currently undergoing a Management Development Programme. The Deputy Manager has completed the A1 Assessors Award enabling the service to offer in-house National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Learning Disability Qualification training. Each of the four people using the service have said they are always treated well and that the staff always listen and act on what they say. All knew who to talk with if they were unhappy about anything and how to complain if they were dissatisfied in any way. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. The home has fully co-operated and they have shown that they have Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and we will do a key inspection by 25 October 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
