Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection of December 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment document (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. Feedback surveys returned to us from people living in the home. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report that showed the home was rated as good. What has this told us about the service? Management sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) in October 2009. The information provided shows how the home is managed, what improvements management have made and their plans for the next 12 months. Some of the improvements they told us about were: They have introduced new care plan paperwork and have ensured that the staff have been well trained in completing this new paperwork. This will ensure that the care needs of the residents are more easily identified and acted upon. Great importance continues to be attached to staff training. We were told that 81 of the staff have either qualified or are working towards achieving their NVQ qualification. This ensures that the residents are cared for safely and properly. They have implemented a new range of activities and continue to encourage more of the residents to attend a local drop-in centre. They have purchased new furniture and equipment. They have also worked on the garden area, planting new plants and bushes. They have also installed a fountain. This ensures that the residents continue to live in a pleasant environment. Some of the comments from the resident feedback surveys were: I like everything. The carers are kind and pleasant. I am happy with everything. I do not think that anything could be better. No complaints have been made to us about the home and we have had no cause to visit since the last inspection. Our judgment is that the staff are still providing a good service for the people living at the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan for this service and will do a key inspection by the end of December 2010. We can, however inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living there.
