What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the last inspection report dated the 17th October 2008. We also reviewed the AQAA which is the homes own assessment of how they are providing good outcomes for the residents. The AQAA was sent to us when we asked for it and it contained all the details that we had asked for. Thirteen residents or their relatives kindly returned surveys to us and the details from these are used in this annual service review. We have also looked at any other information that has been sent to us about this home since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? The homes AQAA states the areas that the manager wants to improve and how this will be achieved. An example of this is that the manager stated that the staff training in nutrition and continence care could be improved, so the manager is organising training for staff over the next twelve months to improve the staff knowledge and skills in these areas of care. The residents surveys tell us that all thirteen residents or their relatives are generally very happy with the care and the staff at the home. The comments below show that people especially like the activities that are available to them. People said The activities organiser arranges trips and a variety of activities The social care is excellent and everyone here makes sure my relative is occupied and happy The activities organiser is excellent. People also commented on the care, they said The home provides individual care so the residents remain un institutionalised The medical care given is excellent and my relative gets the medical attention he needs My relative is dependent for all their needs and the home looks after them very well. One resident responded negatively saying they would like more choice about the meals , but others said they were offered choices. The AQAA states that choices are offered and the residents are asked their opinions about the meals during meetings and in the quality surveys. The manager said they asked more residents to be involved in groups to look at how to improve the choices but the residents said they were happy just to attend the regular meetings and give their opinions. The manager is trying to find as many opportunities as they can to ask the residents and their relatives about how to improve the services that are offered. The high level of satisfaction in the surveys demonstrates that people like where they live and they are comfortable and well looked after. The home manager keeps the commission informed about events or incidents at the home as they are required to do. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next key inspection is due by the 17th October 2010 and we do not plan to change this date. We will review this date if we receive any information that indicates we need to inspect the home earlier. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
