What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. The AQAA gave us good information about the service. It gave us examples of what they do well, how they have improved and what they want to do better. They told us, All service users have a person centred care plan in line with company policy and procedure which is based on their pre assessment, but is expanded upon with the involvement of the service users and staff team. Staff will encourage individuality and encourage service users to pursue their goals. The home has let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown us that they have managed issues satisfactorily. We received seven surveys from people who live at the home. Staff helped six people complete the surveys; one person told us they completed the form without any support. The surveys told us everyone makes decisions about what they do and everyone knows who to talk to if they are not happy. They surveys also said staff treat people who live at the home well and listen to what they say. We received some good comments about what the home does well, which included staff help me to do the activities I want and it cares for all the service users very well. One person said it could be better if they had more staff. Five surveys told us people know how to make a complaint. Two surveys said people didnt know how to make a complaint. We contacted the manager to find out what systems are in place to make people aware of the complaints procedure. The manager said people receive information in the service user guide and discuss the complaints process during service user meetings. The manager said they were having a service Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 user meeting the same evening and would go through it again with everyone. We have not received any information about this service that gives cause for concern and would make us think that the current quality rating is not accurate. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 13 July 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
