What the care home does well People living in the home said they were generally happy with the staff and services provided. Comments included: Staff are kind and helpful Staff do their best to make us feel at home. They treat us all like their mothers They are very busy but do their best. They are a fine bunch of people who work hard to meet our needs. We never know what we are having to eat but it is always good. Medication was inspected and it was noted that administration, storage and recording of medication was well managed at the time of the visit. What the care home could do better: Care files viewed during the inspection held little information about the pattern of care for each individual and did not hold sufficient details of care needs, risk assessments or the persons level of ability to make their own decisions about their daily life. The officer in charge advised that staff were in the process of reviewing all care plans to ensure they were person centered and held all relevant detail to enable staff to provide care appropriate to need, choice and capability. It is essential that each care plan gives a comprehensive overview of health and social care needs and of how these needs will be met and how the care and support will be delivered to ensure individualized care is provided to meet all assessed need. Four care staff were on duty during the visit three were established members of staff and one had been provided by a local domiciliary care agency. These staff were observed to be extremely busy attempting to provide care and support to the thirty three residents who were present in the home. Staff said that normally five people are on duty ,however due to holiday and sickness absence only four staff were rostered for duty. The home must employ staff in sufficient numbers and skill mix to meet all the assessed needs of the residents and enable staff to provide care and support at the exact time it is required.
