Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since our last inspection. This included:The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service, health and social care professionals, relatives and staff. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We had nine surveys returned to us from people who live in the home, four from relatives, two from health and social care professionals and six from staff. Many made positive comments about living at Althorpe, working there and about the services it provides. Some people thought there should be more staff on duty and that the environment still was not always well decorated. Others stated they would like more activities to take place and would like to go out side more, not only in the garden but also the local community. A change of menus was also required by some people living in the home. People made such comments as staff are fantastic and feel staff know mum so well. A relative told us they were notified promptly of any problems and that staff promote independence at all times with each person. The home had dealt with a concern last year but kept us informed of the outcome. It has currently a safe guarding investigation in progress and CQC are awaiting the outcome. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 8th February 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people using the service.
