Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection and annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Discussions with the registered manager. Survey information from four people using the service. Information that we have about how the service manages complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The results of the last key inspection and annual service review. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information that we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and know what further improvements they need to make. The information told us that people are involved in decisions about their care and their opinions are sought about how the home is run. We were told that new staff are recruited safely and receive appropriate training; this will ensure that service users will be looked after by suitable and competent staff. Service users are involved in the selection of new staff; this means they can choose the staff they want to look after them. We did not receive any comments from staff working in the home but we were told that most of them have a recognised qualification in care; this will ensure they have the skills they need to look after people properly. We received comments from four service users. They told us they received the care and support they needed and that staff listened and acted on what they said; this will ensure they get the care they want. Service users also told us that there were suitable activities available; one service user said I like being taken out for walks or trips in the minibus. One visitor said staff are mostly patient and caring and willing to go beyond the everyday expectation of their role. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and have shown us that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown that they continue to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use the service. They told us they have a clear complaints procedure which is available to people and they have had two complaints that have been dealt with properly; this shows that they take complaints seriously. We were told by two of the four service user that they didnt know how to make a formal complaint; the home needs to make sure that everyone understands how to make a complaint if they are unhappy. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 9th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
