What did we do for this annual service review? The annual service review for the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre included the following : The last key inspection was undertaken on 07/11/07 when it received the quality rating of 2*. The person in charge was asked to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) by us. The AQAA is a self-assessment and Data set, which providers are asked to complete each year and is one of the main ways that we can obtain information about how they are meeting the outcomes for people using the service. Completion of the AQAA gives providers the opportunity to tell us about their service and how well they think they are performing. This information allows us to develop a picture of the service being provided and target our inspection activity. The response from surveys returned to us by people living in the home and staff, giving us their views about what it is like living at the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre was good. What the manager has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Information from previous inspections and any information received from organisations since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? Surveys received from both staff and people on the rehabilitation programme were positive, comments included, The professional input at the centre is good. Also, We aim to rehabilitate people to return home with a lot of health and social professional input. One person on the programme wrote, They are a first class team. When asked what the home does well one person wrote, The exercise plan is very good. Training and development of staff continues to be good. Information from previous inspection reports, the AQAA and staff surveys confirm this. One staff member wrote, Training is high on the list for the management. One person who is on the rehabilitation programme and living at the home wrote, It is helping me having trained health professionals to get me back on my feet. The manager tells us of the high percentage of staff, over 80 who have completed a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to level 2 and above to ensure staff continue to develop and hold a recognised qualification in caring for vulnerable people. The manager explains how they aim to ensure all domestic staff complete an NVQ to ensure all staff are trained to a high standard and encourage people to take qualifications to help them in their role at the home and develop their skills. The home is built and adapted to support people receiving rehabilitation treatment so Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 they can return home when the programme has been completed. The manager tells us of improvements made over the last year in terms of the building. New carpets and furniture have been provided in some bedrooms, communal areas of the home have been redecorated and new flooring provided on the ground floor to ensure people live in pleasant comfortable surroundings. One staff member wrote, We are improving the building. Information from the previous inspection report and information provided by the manager in the AQAA, tells us the assessment process continues to be thorough and provided by professional health and social personnel to ensure the home can provide the treatment to help people to return home. All potential residents are assessed prior to admission by a panel of professionals including, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and nursing assessments when they arrive from hospital, to ensure they receive the best treatment and support during their stay. One staff member wrote Its a very good programme of rehabilitation. Equality and diversity is promoted within the home, and the manager tells us in the AQAA both formal and informal training is provided for staff to have a better understanding of the issues of race, disability and ethnicity to ensure people are treated as individuals. One person staying at the home wrote, The staff are all polite and treat me well. Since the last inspection the manager has kept us informed of any issues that have happened and how they have been dealt with. The manager and staff continue to provide a good service and treatment facility to people who stay at the home and improve outcomes for everyone at the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre so they can return to independent living. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor information about the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre and will carry out an inspection when required. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
