The annual service review for Bank House Care Home included the following: An annual quality assurance document (AQAA) was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment and a dataset that is filled in once a year by all providers and is one of the main ways we get information from providers about how they are meeting outcomes for people using their service. The AQAA also provides us with statistical information about the individual service, trends and patterns in social care. Surveys of users of the service and their relatives. A review of what the service has told us about since the last key inspection. A review of the findings of the last unannounced key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was completed by the responsible individual to a good standard and was promptly returned. It showed that the home has plans to improve its service through the development of the premises and through the appointment of more senior care workers. It confirmed that the home has recruited a new matron and home manager to replace the registered manager who resigned in May of this year. It states that the new manager has made a positive impact in terms of the recruitment and retention of staff and through an increased occupancy rate. The AQAA states that there has been an improvement to the range of activities available to people living in the home and that further improvements are expected through the appointment of a full time Activities Coordinator. It also states that the home looks to improve its care planning process to make it more person centred. The document states there is a full medication policy, reviewed in August this year, and that senior care workers are receiving training in this although further training is required. Equally, the AQAA states that training is also being provided in the area of safeguarding, although further training is required and that there have been problems in accessing this training. The AQAA states there has only been one complaint and one safeguarding issue over the past twelve months which confirms a safe service. It does state there are, at present, only ten of the thirty one permanent care workers with a vocational qualification which is low. One of the aims stated in the AQAA is for 80 of staff to receive such qualifications within a reasonable timescale. Only three surveys were received from interested parties. Generally they were positive about the home with one stating overall Bank House is a friendly, safe, comfortable home with caring, hard working staff. The two service users were negative about the activities available in the home. A review of the evidence received since the last key inspection showed that, Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 essentially, the notifications were routine. There was a low level of incidents and there was no need to visit the home as a result of any of the information received. A review of the last key inspection which took place on 4th November 2008 confirmed that this home received a good rating. Of the seven outcome groups all received a good rating which reflected well on the performance of the home. There was a requirement in respect of the need for a registered manager which remains outstanding following the departure of the previous post holder. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The annual service review has shown that the agency continues to provide a good service to its users. Any outstanding issues, such as training and the registration of the manager, the home is aware of and intends to rectify. The review has identified activities as an area requiring some attention. Otherwise, the Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required. We can inspect the agency at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
