Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received about the service since the last time we visited including notifications. These are a legal requirement for the home to complete to let us know about events at the home, such as a serious injury to a person living at the home; We asked the home to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA, telling us about what the home has developed since the last Inspection and what they plan to do in the following year; We sent questionnaires to the people who live at the home and the staff who work there; We looked at the last inspection report for the home; WE looked at the way the home managed any concerns or complaints raised with them. What has this told us about the service? The home manager sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we needed. Since the last Inspection the manager has made application to be registered. This means she will take on a legal accountability for the day to day running of the service. The home told us that since the last inspection they have held a consultation day for people who use the service and their relatives to comment on the service; engaged two people who use the service to act as champions to attend resident meetings and staff meetings and speak on the behalf of people who use the service in the team meetings; continued with the refurbishment of the home; provided televisions for all bedrooms; improved the care plans and implemented new policies and procedures from the care trust; introduced a format to assist in planning and risk assessing outings; introduced a new menu; all staff are now trained in manual handling and infection control; improved staff confidence in addressing concerns or safeguarding issues; improved information for and assessment of agency workers to ensure they have the skills to work with people; implemented changes to the staffing rota and decreased staff sickness. They have also told us they aim to employ an essential life plan co-ordinator; respond to the consultation carried out to ensure the service is flexible and meets the needs and aspirations of local people who use the service; offer opportunities for students to attend the home; increase staff training in person centred planning and work with the learning disability liaison nurse to ensure each person has a health action plan; and begun training some staff to senior level. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home have told us they have received no complaints in the last year. They have been involved in raising safeguarding alerts to protect the welfare of the people who use the service. This included making a referral to the protection of vulnerable adults register. People who completed questionnaires for us told us that they were happy with the services provided. They said the activities are good I like all the staff Takes me to the steam trains Takes me to the pantomime. I like cooking with staff Provides me with one to one staff so I can go for walks when staying at Baytree I have 1:1 staff. I can decide what activities I do. I like all the staff and I find meeting lots of different people makes me very happy. I am very happy when I stay here The staff and clients make me feel very happy and welcome I like coming because I can see all my friends. The staff told us: Offers an essential service, generally a very good team Offers a wide variety of activities Gives choice- acts as only a respite service locally where peers can mix away from home. Gets people to act independently; holds together breakdowns at home. Some people using the service felt they would like more activities, and some staff felt that they needed for money for social activities and would better from better equipment being available in the annexe to enable more thorough assessments to be carried out. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We believe the home may have improved since our last Inspection. We will not alter our Inspection plan and will complete a Key Inspection by the 18th February 2011. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about people who use the service.
