Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included; The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Information from any visits we have made to the service. What has this told us about the service? The registered provider sent us the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. The registered provider stresses that this is a small care home, which operates, as a family home would do. Information within the AQAA confirms that no staff are employed at the home, although other family members live there. The homeowner, who is the registered provider, runs the home and takes responsibility for meeting the support needs of the two people living there. This means that there is good continuity regarding the support provided. There have been no new admissions to the home, with both service users having lived there for some years. The home owner states that social interaction between service users and the local community, family members and friends is encouraged and that he supports the two service users to make informed decisions. Regular discussions take place as part of day to day life at Beacholme and advice is provided to service users regarding any health and safety issues, and in particular fire safety. This helps to keep service users safe. Previous inspections have found that the home owner provides good support regarding any health issues and clear records are kept of any health care appointments, which helps to ensure that health problems are monitored. The home is decorated and maintained to a good standard, providing a pleasant and attractive place to live. The home is situated close to the beach and also near to local shops and leisure facilities. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 This location suits the two service users as both are able to go out in the nearby local area, such as to the shops, without any direct support. The homeowner supported the two service users to complete CQC surveys. Both service users confirmed that they decide what to do each day, they know who to speak to if unhappy about anything and that they are treated well at Beacholme. The homeowner reports that he has not received any complaints and the CQC have had no complaints about the home. The registered provider is aware of their responsibilities regarding keeping the CQC informed of important events. We looked at all the information we have received and our judgement is that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor the service. We can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
