We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. A number of people living at the home were sent surveys to gain their comments about the service. At the time of writing this report five surveys had been returned. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment ((AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA identified improvements made to the service in the last 12 months. These included the following statements: 1. We have improved our pre admission visit and assessment. 2. They have a care plan review process and there has been an increase in training to meet peoples needs. 3. They have introduced the End of Life Planning programme. 4. All new admissions to the home are assessed for nutritional needs using the MUST screening tool All new nutritional needs identified are referred to our local dietitian. 5. We have improved our staff development and training records. Introduced a named person to co-ordinate training. 6. We have a new system in place to track our policy and procedures and ensure they Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 are regularly revised and updated with reference to changes in Legislation and good practices advice. Peoples comments in the surveys were positive overall. Five people said that they had received enough information to help decide if this home was the right place for them before they moved in. One person said the home was chosen by their spouse. Some comments received included that the home has good caring staff and the home is friendly. My family always get a warm welcome . Four of the surveys indicated that they always receive the care and support needed and one survey said they sometimes do. Four of the five surveys said that there is always enough staff available when you need them and one said their sometimes is. The majority of surveys indicated that they always like the meals and one comment was the food is tasty. All five of the completed surveys indicated that the home is always clean and fresh. Overall, the AQAA and the comments of people living at the demonstrated that the provider was committed to ongoing improvement to practice. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
