Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection in February 2009. This included: * The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. * Feedback surveys returned to us by those using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. * Information we have about how the home manages any complaints. * The previous key inspection report. * Relevant information from other organisations. * What people have told us about the service. * What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The service was asked to complete their annual quality assurance assessment on the 13 November 2009 and return it to us by 11 December 2009. We spoke with the manager as this had not been provided. A completed document was received on the 30 December 2009. The home was last inspected by us on the 5 February 2009. The outcome rating following our visit was 2 stars, providing a good standard of care for people at the home. The AQAA record received was not on a current CQC document but an updated version of the previous years record for CSCI. A lot of the information on the AQAA was unchanged with only minor additions about what has taken place over the last year. This could have been expanded upon to demonstrate what has taken place over the last year including staffing arrangement and training and development. Information provided showed that there had been a number of staff changes over the last year. Currently there are 31 care and nursing staff, over the last year 11 staff have ceased employment and over the last 3 months 26 shifts have been covered by agency staff. Of the current team, 25 per cent have completed NVQ at level 2 or above. Other information provided on the AQAA refers to complaints and protection. The home has received 8 complaints over the last year, all of which were up held. One of these issues had also been raised directly with us, which the manager responded to. We have not been made aware of any safeguarding concerns. As part of the review we also send out feedback surveys to people living at the home and staff. At the time of writing this report no feedback surveys had been returned. Our judgment is that the service still provides a good service for the people who receive support, however this will be kept under review.
