Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the annual quality assurance assessment, AQAA, that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQQA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and it is our judgement that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what improvements they need to make. Information was gathered from surveys of residents relatives. Relatives commented that they are kept informed of any developments at the service and that communication with the staff and manager is particularly good. Relatives also said that residents have opportunities to discuss life at the home at the weekly residents meetings. Comment was made that residents heath and care needs are met. One person said, The level of care is excellent. Another relative said that the health and personal care is very good, with close attention to hygiene and support to access community health services such as dental and chiropody services. Residents are said to be able to exercise choice in how they spend their time but are also encouraged to involve themselves in activities. Outings and holidays are arranged. A relative said that the staff have a flexible approach, which helps engage residents to lead a full life. Comment was made that residents are supported to develop independence such as cooking skills. A relative also said that the home has been effective in personal and emotional development of their relative who lives at the home. Other activities for residents include college courses in art and photography, parties, work based activities, holidays and domestic pastimes such as arts and craft and computer skills. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Relatives say that they are aware of the complaints procedure and that any concerns are always dealt with in a prompt way. Residents relatives said that the homes staff and management are approachable and actively seek their views. The AQAA states that there has been 1 complaint in the last 12 months which was not upheld. Staff are said to have the right skills for meeting residents needs and comment was made about the commitment of staff to providing a good service. The following comment was made, The home is well managed. All the staff are outstanding and are committed to helping the residents. One person said that communication with residents was sometimes hampered by some staff having a limited understanding of English. Staff have access to a variety of training courses and 8 of the 10 care staff have National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 or above. NVQ level 3 and 4 training is available for team leaders, the deputy manager and the manager. The manger has the Registered Managers Award and NVQ level 4. A relative said how the home is always clean and well maintained. The AQAA states that when a new resident moves in that the bedroom is redecorated in colours and furnishings chosen by the resident. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12/02/2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
