What did we do for this annual service review? We sent the service an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA. This is a document for the service to complete to tell us about the way they operate, what they have improved in the last year since we visited and what they plan to do in the coming 12 months; We looked at the last Key Inspection report and the reports of any visits we may have done in the last year; We looked at the information we have received about the service, including any safeguarding alerts or complaints; we looked at the way the home managed these; We looked at the notifications the home has sent us. These are a legal requirement and tell us about incidents that have happenned at the home, for example a serious injury to a person who lives there. We sent questionnaires to the people who use the service; and we sent questionnaires to the people who work at the home. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment when we asked for it. It gave us the information we required. The home told us that since their last inspection they have contimnued th refurbish the communal areas and bedrooms; provided a cover between the kitchen and the coach house; replaced furiture in the quiet lounge; organised a meal each week where people can try fifferent options; have a brunch on Saturdays so that people can choose to have a lie in;installed a fish tank in the lounge; increased the participation in trips and activities; employed more male staff so that there is a better gender balance; gained more experoence of admissions; allocated a senior to develop activities, holidays and entertainments; incorporated Mental Capacity statements into the care planning systems; improved the staff annual leave systems and a team leader now spends much of her time on administrative work. They also told us that they plan to re-locate the medication cupboards into the quiet lounge so that administration can be an even more private activity; produce an information leaflet with photos; consider deregistering the beds in the Coach House and making this supported living where adults with a learning disability could be assessed and taught the skills necessary to live more independently; all service users are to have completely person centred plans; offer all support workers training on the Mental Capacity Act, either in house or by accessing locally provided external training sessions; continue to audit all areas of administration and to amend and improve systems and practises as required; relocate the office and to make it a much more user friendly workspace; increase filing storage facilities on site or to look at the possibility Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 of storing some of the older records securely but away from the home; continue to improve the communication between team leaders by coming up with a system that everyone uses effectively; look at the possibility of installing a stairlift on the main staircase; continue to adapt and change to meet the needs of the service users; and continue with the ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of the home. People who completed questionnaires for us told us that: Care is of a very high standard. Work in a person centred way Good cooking We help Maggie make cakes. Escorts me to Aspects Treats everyone who lives there as individuals, with respect. The NVQ training to level 3 has been worthwhile. Tries to have adequate staff for service users needs. Lots of thought goes into diets and food allowances are generous. The building is limited in terms of physical space and facilities (i.e. toilets and bathrooms). inside and has very little space outside for service user use. The people are nice, food, staff. I like living here. The home told us that they have received no complaints in the last year and made one safeguarding referral which was resolved with full support given to the individual concerned. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have not changed our mind about the service and will carry out a Key Inspection by 24th February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns for the people who use it. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
