What the care home does well The people living were very happy with the services received one person said the home was `very well organised and caring`. The providers were very keen to ensure that the home provided a good quality environment and was relevant to the age group of the people living in the home. Much of the home had been redecorated, new furniture had been purchased and the home was very clean and tidy. The gardens were well developed for people who live in the home and provided areas where they could assist in the garden or sit and relax. All those living in the home had had an assessment of their needs completed before they were admitted in to the home to make sure that the home would be suitable for them and their needs could be met. To ensure that staff had all the information they needed to support people and ensure their needs were met the home had developed very detailed care plans. A varied menu was provided which offered people choice at each meal. People stated that they enjoyed the meals provided, one person said `this chicken curry is very good, nice and spicy` and another said `the food is very good`. People had the opportunity to access a wide variety of activities both in the home and in the community which were appropriate to their interests and abilities. The management of the home was very open and anyone could speak to them at any time. The home had systems in place, such as polices and procedures and regular staff training to ensure people were protected from abusive situations. The manager had also ensured that staff had received training to support people appropriately where restrictions were placed on the peoples life styles and choices in order to keep them safe due to their mental health. The manager had ensured that appropriate assessments andaction plans had been completed to support this type of care. The care needs of people living in the home were taken into consideration when assessing the staffing levels required. Staff recruitment procedures were robust and all the required checks were obtained. Staff received regular training to make sure that they had the knowledge and skills to meet peoples needs and they were actively encouraged to gain qualifications in care. The registered manager was exceptionally well organised and managed the home well. Staff training and supervision was a high priority. The providers were involved with overseeing the home and supporting the staff team. They visited the home regularly and were involved in quality monitoring. The home had a good system of monitoring the quality of the services it provided for people who lived there. The quality assurance system made sure that people had a say about the running of the home and those spoken to felt their suggestions would be listened to and actioned. The home is very well managed and they had met the only requirement relating to staff references made at the last inspection. There were also points of good practice that the manager was advised to consider implementing which she had implemented including access to the service users guide and monitoring of medication storage temperatures. What the care home could do better: Where staff are assisting people to eat their meals staff should be seated to encourage communication and a more person centered approach and they should avoid stirring the food together so that people can experience different flavours and textures of their food. The audits of the records of falls that people living in the home have had should be expanded so that more detail is gathered which will enable the manager to identify any issues that could be addressed to minimise falls further.
