Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at how the home had performed over the last year. This took into account what the service had told us in their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment ( AQAA ). We consulted those who use the service for their views on the quality and reliability of the service. We consulted with other professionals who have contact with the service to gain their view on the training and professionalism of the service. We have not received any complaints about the service. The service has kept us informed of all notifiable incidents. The last key inspection of this service rated it as an Excellent service. The range of fees charged for this service can be obtained directly from the home. What has this told us about the service? The home at the last key inspection, were assessed as being an Excellent quality home. No Recommendations or Requirements were made at the last inspection. The home has worked in co-operation with us and has kept us informed of all significant events and changes. The home canvasses the views of its residents in formal and informal ways. The proprietor / registered manager spends a lot of time with residents and has a good grasp of the quality of the service the home provides. The home sends out an annual questionnaire to residents and their relatives, who have the option of returning it anonymously. The home have a suggestion box at the entrance to the home, which is checked regularly and comments noted and acted upon. Residents of the home and their relatives know how to make a formal complaint if necessary, but complaints are more often than not addressed at source. Comments made by residents have resulted in film afternoons, name tags for staff and the provision of a bird table. The home values the diverse backgrounds of its residents and encourages them to remain individuals in their own right. Staff receive training which highlights the promotion of choice, Independence and fulfillment. At the last inspection staff were seen to treat residents with dignity and respect. Residents spoken to assured us that they are treated well and were positive that they would complain if they were not. The home has a relaxed and happy atmosphere. The home state in their AQAA that Meeting the dietary and cultural needs for our residents meals is an important aspect of our home, and the choice of good quality nutritious food that older people can identify with and enjoy is one of the most important features in the daily lives of most residents. We make every effort to cater for vegetarians, people from different cultural backgrounds and those who need special diets for medical reasons. We ensure that we always have sufficient staff on duty to enable individual residents the right to have their social and recreational needs met. We have a continual programme of refurbishment and improvement to ensure that, wherever possible, we do not discriminate on the grounds of disability. It can be easy for people moving into a care home to become dis-empowered and believe that they have little choice in the way that services are provided to them, particularly as they are often moving in at a very vulnerable time in their lives. Within a necessary framework of routine and practice, we consistently strive to promote the rights and non-discriminatory treatment that our residents are entitled to expect . This statement was evidenced at the last inspection and contributed to the quality Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 assessment. The homes residents are mainly self funding which enables them to provide a high quality of care and continue to improve the facilities the home is able to offer. Staff are employed by the home in sufficient numbers to meet the assessed needs of its residents. Staff are given a range of training opportunities and are supervised and supported to do the job expected of them. Staff numbers have recently been increased to provide further opportunities for residents to access community activities. Relatives and friends are made welcome to the home at all reasonable times and the opportunity exist for guests to have a meal the home if they wish. We therefore confirm that the quality rating of excellent is maintained and that a key inspection will take place in the following year. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by August 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time, if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
