Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that is filled in once a year by all providers. It focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some statistical information about the home. Surveys returned to us by people who live at Chichester Hall and from some of the staff that work there. The previous key inspection report, particularly if requirements and recommendations have been made to help make improvements to the service. We also checked whether there have been any complaints made about the home or whether there have been any matters regarding the safeguarding of vulnerable adults (abuse). We have not received any complaints or reports of anything abusive happening at the home. What has this told us about the service? Ms Wilkinson, the manager at Chichester Hall sent us the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. She provided us with information about the service particularly where improvements have been made and where further improvements are planned. At our last visit to Chichester Hall we did not make any requirements or good practice recommendations. Within the AQAA, the manager has identified the strengths of the home, areas where further improvements can be made and plans for how those improvements will be implemented over the next year. From all of the information we looked at, our judgement is that the home continues to provide an excellent service. We sent surveys to some of the people that live at Chichester Hall and five were returned to us. Some people had received some support from their relatives or staff to complete the surveys. Most people indicated that they were given enough information about Chichester Hall to help them make their decisions to move there. They told us that they receive the care and support they need and that there are enough staff on duty to help them. They also told us that there are interesting and enjoyable activities at the home but the views on these were variable. People told us that the staff always listen and act on what is said and that the staff treat them well. Most of the people that completed surveys told us that they know about the complaint process and know who to speak to if they are not happy about something. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 We also received ten surveys from staff at the home. Most of the staff at the home have gained a relevant NVQ (National Vocational Qualification), including the housekeepers and cook. There is a training plan in place at the home and staff are encouraged to keep their skills up to date. The manager said that the home has a good record of staff retention. This helps to ensure that people using this service receive consistent support from people they know well and trust. She also told us that she is trying to employ some extra staff to help ensure that people are supported appropriately, at all times of the day. The staff that returned surveys to us told us that they received very good induction training and further training to help them with their work. The surveys indicated that there are usually enough staff available to fully meet the needs of the people that live at Chichester Hall. They also told us that they receive regular support and supervision from their manager. This helps to ensure that staff work safely and fulfil the aims and objectives of the home. Some of the people that use this service made comments on where they thought the home does well. They included: The home provides excellent care and support physically and emotionally. It is a very caring home. The food and the cleanliness are very good. I always get attention when required. Everything, it is lovely, caring and friendly home. I like this home it is lovely. The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
